The intimacy of design and why it’s so seductive

I’m extremely excited to show you this latest video on what design means to me. I attempt to articulate the key drivers that motivate this enriching lifestyle many of us have fallen in love with. I hope that my passion resonates with all of you as we embark on this beautiful journey of learning together. Before I show you this video, I’d like to keep you in the loop on what I’ve been working on.

HOW TO GET A JOB AS A DESIGNER, GUARANTEED

As some of you may know, I recently released a book that provides a step-by-step guide on how to get a job as a designer for students and graduates. But it’s more than that. I wrote it for anyone that wants to be empowered to achieve any goal through the tools of action and persistence no matter what the circumstance. The principles of personal branding, the power of ideas, networking and creating an emotional connection in conversation are all forces within you that you’ll discover to be useful in the book no matter what industry you’re in. It took me a year from writing to completion (hence the lack of posts! so sorry) and am incredibly grateful for the support of those that have read the book to date. Take a sneak peak here if you haven’t already and do share it to friends and family who you know that are emerging designers: https://getajobasadesigner.com

‘THE BIRTH OF A DESIGNER’ SPEAKING TOUR

I’m currently in a place of heightened euphoria as I prepare for my three month speaking tour. I have one event in Sydney for Think Education’s Festival Of Change and you can register for FREE here: http://www.think.edu.au/festival-of-change/sydney. The rest will be all over the United States. I’ll be speaking at 19 events, over 15 cities that comprise of mostly design colleges, universities, industry events, primary schools and high schools which you can RSVP to here: https://getajobasadesigner.com/tourdates.php

During my talk I’ll be uncovering why design is such a seductive career path. Perhaps at the heart is the sense of ‘newness’. The idea of exploring, deconstructing and re-inventing taps into our need to contribute, connect and grow. On top of that, the ability to influence human behavior and solve problems creatively while getting paid for it, is indeed pretty cool. So are people born to be designers? I’ll be diving into the fine details of what it takes to get a job as a designer, propelling you into a lifestyle that ticks all the boxes.

On the side, during my time in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I’m also doing an exclusive talk at Herman Miller where I’ll be sharing my experiences on cultural diversity and how it impacts the creative process.

The cherry on top at the very end of my tour is being part of CreativeLive.com where I’ll be teaching a two-day workshop. I’ve been invited to hold one workshop on portfolio creation and development and another workshop on getting the design job you want and how to apply yourself to maximise employment opportunities.
